Staying focused can become very difficult especially when we have so much going on. Even our motivation takes a hit when we feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of tasks at hand.

So what does it take to stay focused and motivated at all times?

Here’s an interesting story –

Once Bill Gates and Warren Buffett were attending a dinner party. While they were in the middle of a conversation with Bill Gates’ father, a person approached them and asks “What is the secret to your success?” To this, both Bill Gates and his father replied, “It is the focus.”

No one is born with focus or determination. However, successful people always find a way to utilize what they have more effectively.

It is very easy to get distracted by the unimportant things in life. However, it is crucial to keep track of what's important and necessary – your goals.

Here are the Top 3 Tips to stay focused:

Tip 1: Identify your Goal

Humans can focus on a maximum of 7 things at a time. Even then, successful people, dedicate their entire focus on just a single goal – that is how they become masters and champions of their field.

You may have more than one goal in your life –

But what is your main goal?

Which goal will affect your life in a positive way to a great extent?

What is that one thing that will make this year, the best year of your life?

The answer, to these questions, is your main goal which should be the ultimate one.

Identify your goal – this is the 1st step towards becoming more focused.

Tip 2: Prioritise your Goal

You don’t need to sacrifice everything once you decide your main goal. But you got to put that goal on the top of your priority list.

Let’s say your major goal is an educational goal or a relationship goal or a career goal - make sure you take a step, be it small or big, towards it every day. You need to work on your goal before you start with your routine.

But that does not mean you should give up everything else. Setting your priority means saying yes to something important and saying no to the rest of the unimportant things.

You do not necessarily have to give up everything for your goal. Rather, you can act to make small progress towards your goal, every day. For instance, if you are in a relationship but your financial goal is your first priority, you don’t give up on your relationship. All you need to do is to put your main goal on the top of your priority list.

Start somewhere. Take small steps every day. At the end of the year, you will be amazed to see just how much progress you have made.

For example, exercising for just 20 minutes every day can make you a lot more fit and healthy by the end of the year!

Tip 3: Eliminate Distractions

In order to stay focused, its high time that you address your distractions. Today, smartphones are a BIG hindrance to our productivity and focus. A single buzz of notification has the potential to distract you for the next 15 minutes (at least). That is, it takes at least 15 minutes to get your focus back on the important task at hand.

That's why I recommend that you turn off notifications or simply turn off your mobile internet till you complete your important task.

These 3 effective tips which will surely help you to retain your focus on your goals for much longer than you currently are. Even if you implement any one of them, make sure to stick by it.

Staying motivated is totally within your reach.
