9 Ways To Increase Energy And Motivation

One of the main differences between highly successful people and the rest is their high level of energy. It's a quality that every champion, successful entrepreneur or celebrity have. This quality enables them to accomplish those things that an average person would take a year to do, within a month.

How do they do it? What is the secret behind such high energy throughout their life? Check out these 9 tried-and-tested methods.

1. Drink Enough Water. 

You might already know – 60% of your body consists of water. Therefore, it is crucial for you to drink enough water throughout the day.

Incidentally, if you have ever practiced yoga, you would know that, in the ancient traditions, water is considered to be the only drink, while the other beverages are considered to be food.

You've got to make sure that along with drinking tea, coffee, and the other beverages, you must drink pure water every now and then. One good healthy habit is to start your day by drinking a glass of water. You can even add one teaspoon of honey or a little bit of lemon juice if you don’t like the taste of water.

2. Replace Coffee by Guarana Drink. 

Have you heard of Guarana before?

It is a beverage similar to coffee.

In fact, guarana has two times more caffeine than coffee. Drinking guarana before working out can be very energising.

Caution: do not overuse it. Make sure you don’t drink more than a few cups of it daily.

3. Maintain Your Ideal Body Weight.

Being overweight can have many implications. Apart from an impact on your emotional wellbeing, it can also have biological consequences. For example, people who are overweight are slow and less energetic. That is why it is crucial for you to stay within your ideal weight range.

4. Perform Minimum Required Physical Activity Daily. 

There are many theories about better ways to exercise. An undisputed fact is – your body requires some sort of physical activity every single day. The worst thing that we can do is just to lay down or to sit for long hours. Hence, you need to make sure that you do the minimum required amount of exercise daily, without fail.

There are two thumb rules to this:

1. Exercise for 200 minutes per week (half an hour every day).

OR

      2. Walk/ run/ move 6000 steps daily. How can you actually complete 6000 steps daily?
Nowadays there are plenty of apps that count the number of steps you take or measure the distance you cover. Simply use such apps to keep track of your daily progress.  

Another way to do physical activity is by doing your daily chores. If you usually use your car to go to your neighbour’s place, instead go there by walk or bicycle. This way, you would be able to do the minimum required physical exercise for the day, without allocating any special time for the same.

5. Always Set Goals and Deadlines for Yourself.

The brain is the main source of energy. You might have noticed this interesting point when you're on vacation -  there is not much to do and hence you start feeling lazy and low on energy.

On the other hand, when you are faced with things that inspire of motivates you, you feel energetic. There may be some situations where you have to work tirelessly, yet you feel uplifted.

Why is it that on some occasions, you feel tired and lazy and on others energetic and motivated?

It is because your brain generates energy depending on your goals and needs. That’s why it is very important to always have inspiring goals in your life. It is necessary to go after something and to have fixed deadlines that'll push you further. They will help you to accomplish more in life, stay energetic and will keep you inspired.

6. Come Up With Empowering Beliefs and Stories.

Steve Jobs, in his biography, shared one of the reasons behind his high level of energy. He had a regret about the fact that his biological father refused to raise him. Thus, he aspired to become successful and famous so that the media would want to cover him, hoping that one day his biological father would read about Steve in the newspaper and would regret his decision give up Steve for adoption.

Whether it is true or not, he came up with the story to energize himself and keep him going. You too can come up with empowering beliefs and stories that will propel you for success.

7. MakeBiochemicalBloodTest.

If your body lacks certain vitamins or minerals, it will be harder for your body to operate, making you feel less energetic. Do a blood test to make sure that your body does not lack the same.

You can do them once a year and find out what exactly is not right. You can make necessary changes in your diet and gradually regain the balance of the required elements.

8. Eliminate Stress and Negative Emotions.

While reading this point, you may be thinking, ‘Well, I cannot quit my job.’  :) Anyway, simply think about the events that drain your energy. Eliminated stress does not mean quitting your job. Rather, it means to eliminate or reduce the amount of time that you spend on thinking about negative people or situations.

Your energy is a psychological thing. If you're physically tired, usually taking 2-3 hours rest brings you back to normal state. However, negative emotions and stress can adversely affect your energy. That is why it is important to look for things or people or situations that exhaust your energy. Once you find the cause, you will be able to find a way out of this negativity.

9. Develop Good Sleeping Habits.

Surprisingly if you develop good sleep habits, fewer hours of sleep may also be enough for you.

So what are these good sleep habits?

  • Avoid looking at your mobile or laptop screens for long 
  • Avoid bright light at least an hour before going to bed  
  • Do not to eat 1-2 hours prior to sleep 
  • Reduce your alcohol consumption 
  • Maintain a suitable environment (diminish noise and light) in your bedroom  
  • Optimize the temperature in your bedroom
    Experiments show that temperature affects your quality of sleep predominantly, even more than noise! The comfortable temperature for sleep is around 20° Celsius. Try to maintain this temperature.  
  • Set a permanent time to go to bed and wake up. Your body performs better when it can predict a routine.
