Mike Tyson was an undisputed world champion in the 1990s. He was dominating the world.

In one of his matches, he was placed against an “outsider” James Douglas.

No one believed that Douglas could survive. The only casino that decided to place odds for such a predetermined fight made Douglas a 42-to-1 underdog.

In the 8th round, Tyson landed a right uppercut that knocked Douglas down. The referee counted till 9, but in the very last second, Douglas managed to get up!

Tyson went for the finish but Douglas survived. He landed an incredible flurry of punches, and did something that others had never imagined of — he knocked out Tyson! This victory became the most sensational result in the entire history of boxing.

In his post-fight interview, he was asked how he won the fight even though no one believed that he had a chance.

"Because of my mother,” Douglas said … “God bless her heart."

Further, he revealed that no one believed in him apart from his mother. She always told him that he could achieve everything that he wants to and believes in. She believed that he could become the boxing champion and could beat Tyson in particular.

His mother died 23 days prior to this match. This was extremely tough for him as his mom was the one who taught Douglas to stand up for himself.

Douglas added, "I knew she was looking down, happy, saying, 'I told you, my baby did it,'."

That’s the story Douglas told himself.

That’s the narrative that allowed him to make the impossible, possible.

Here’s another story. This incident took place in the last century, in Hungary.

The man was mistakenly locked in a refrigerator car. When the refrigerator was opened in the morning, they found the poor man frozen. The investigation revealed an unexpected thing: the refrigerator was turned off and the temperature inside it was a bearable 500 Fahrenheit (100 Celsius).

However, the man still died because he believed that he’s locked in a refrigerator.

This goes to show how the story you tell yourself can make or break you!

YOU’RE are the scriptwriter and the hero of YOUR own movie.

You are constantly telling a story to yourself - about yourself - in your head.

Your stories become your self-fulfilling prophecy.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't — you're right.”

- Henry Ford

Whatever you believe in, will become your reality.

Cultivate your belief in yourself; nourish it in every possible way. Eventually, everything will fall into place.

When your will is strong, no one can stop you from living your dream life.

You think you can. Then you can.

Your greatest enemy is not the outer world, but that inner voice that tells you ‘you aren't good enough’.

BUT, it’s up to you to decide.

You always get to choose the story you tell yourself.

Choose wisely.

“Your story defines your glory.”
