Will You Be Rich One Day? What are the signs of success to look for?
Well, it depends on your personal qualities. If you are on the right track, then success will surely come your way.
In this article, you will learn 3 characteristics that are shared by all successful people. If you have similar characteristics, then you have a strong potential to be one of them.
SIGN#1: You Have Written Goals.
Goal setting seems so intuitive and therefore unnecessary to even talk about it.
However, a shocking study by Harvard Study concluded that:
- 84% of the people had no specific goals at all!
- 14% had goals but they were not in written form.
- Only 3% has clearly written goals and had plans to accomplish them.
As you can see, the vast majority of the people don’t have clearly written goals. This is a very embarrassing statistical figure because numerous researchers have found that if you write down your goals, you are much more likely to achieve them.
For instance, Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California found out that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis!
Isn’t this quite obvious?
After all, you can’t hit the target that you don't see!
Some people think -
“I don't need to write down my goals. I already know what I want.”
While this could be partially true, in reality, when you don't write down your goals, they are often vague.
It is obvious that everyone wants to be:
However, these goals are simply too vague and they don't urge you to take specific actions today.
Also, if you decide to keep your goals in your mind, they are likely to get jumbled with the 100s of other thoughts that you have every second.
In fact, 25% of the New Year resolutions are dropped within the 1st week of the year.
So, as you can see, if you don't write down your goals and you aren't serious about achieving them, the chances of achieving the same are very little.
Coming back to the Harvard study (the one we had discussed earlier), 3% of the people who had written down their goals were earning 10 times more than the rest 97%!
Therefore, if you have clearly written goals, you are ahead of 97% of the population and on the right path to success.
SIGN#2: You’re A Realistic Optimist
Nowadays, positive psychology is very popular.
You must have stumbled upon several quotes such as:
Quotes like these can be very deceptive. Earlier, I used to fall into the trap of false optimism as well.
For example, many young entrepreneurs have unrealistic mission statements for their start-up:
- “We are going to reach a million customers…”
- “We are going to raise a billion dollars!”
The above statements are usually far from what we really can achieve.
Therefore, I urge you to be a Realistic Optimist. ☺
It is good to be optimistic.
At the same time, it is important for you to do your homework - study the market, study the situation, study the facts and be aware of the reality.
Here is another example of a positive quote:
“Everything you want is coming. Relax and let the universe pick the timing and the way. You just need to trust that what you want is coming, and watch how fast it comes.” Abraham Hicks.
Such quotes can cause you to live in a delusion.
Let’s see what a real-world business practitioner says -
As you can see, Branson doesn't give you a false sense of optimism. Not everything will be positive. There will definitely be ups and downs. But it is still possible.
So what does it mean to be a realistic optimist?
It means that:
- You’ve done your homework (research). You are aware of the facts and reality.
- You see that there are pros and cons of your idea.
- In such a situation of uncertainty you say “Yes”.
If you follow the above steps, then you are taking calculated risks. You are better prepared to face the hardships and persist till you achieve your rewards and goals in the end.
The below quote illustrates the attitude of a realistic optimist
If you are a Realistic Optimist and you take calculated risks, it is a clear sign that you are on the right path to success.
SIGN#3: You Turn Your Ideas Into Actions QUICKLY!
Most people have good ideas and plans for achieving them, SOMEDAY. However, most people don’t take determined actions to turn these ideas into action.
Bill Gates wrote a book “Business @ the Speed of Thought.” Bill Gates and several other billionaires often stress the importance of turning ideas into actions QUICKLY!
“People used to always say to me that they wanted to write a play, they wanted to write a movie, they wanted to write a novel, and the couple of people that did it were 80 percent of the way to having something happen.” - Woody Allen
What Woody Allen highlights here is that most people don't even take the first step to turn their dreams into reality.
Therefore, if you are the type of person who puts plans into actions quickly, you are ahead of the majority of the people.
Sally Berger summarized this concept very well –
3 signs that you will be highly successful:
