Top 10 Morning Rituals Of Highly Successful People
Morning rituals for your body.
No: 1 – Deep breathing (1-2 minutes)
This is a very simple technique, yet is powerful!
It replenishes the oxygen in your body and hence energises you immediately.
Wim Hof, a Dutch extreme athlete, holds 26 world records, including one for longest ice bath. He attributes much of his success, to this simple ‘deep breathing exercise.’
What’s the technique?
It’s very simple – just take deep, long breaths for 1 – 2 minutes. Breathe in fully and breathe out normally. This is enough to energise your brain and body.
No: 2 – Jog or run on the spot (1 – 5 minutes)
Several researches have shown that cardio training is the best form of morning exercise.
If you don't have enough time or motivation to go outside for a run, then there is an equally effective alternative – jog on the spot.
This does not take any sort of preparation. Even if you jog for just a couple of minutes, it is still effective as the whole body moves and hence your heart rate increases.
It truly awakes you, while it only takes a few minutes.
No: 3 – Stretch and exercise (15 – 30 minutes)
Those who work out in the morning are much more likely to stick to their routine.
This is because – if you postpone your exercise for later during the day, you may be bogged down by other commitments, or you may just be too tired!
Stretching and exercising is a good alternative to Ritual No: 2 (running).
No: 4 – Eat a well-balanced healthy breakfast (0 extra time)
Often times, since we are usually in a rush in the morning, we tend to skip breakfast and just grab a quick coffee with croissants.
However, this habit is unhealthy – it does not provide you with enough energy for the day. You’ll definitely feel hungry within the next few hours itself.
The opposite bad example is the famous traditional breakfast - fried eggs, sausages or bacon, toast and jam. Such a heavy breakfast is bound to make you drowsy within the next hour.
Instead, try having breakfasts that have a lot of fruits and vegetables.
No: 5 – Wake up early (0 minutes of extra time)
If you are not a morning person, this ritual can be quite tough. However, it is still an effective morning ritual.
In a poll of 20 executives (cited by a time-management expert Laura Vanderkam), 90% of the people said that they wake up before 6 AM on weekdays.
For instance, Disney CEO Bob Iger gets up at 4:30 AM to read.
Financial expert, Robert Kiyosaki, claims that he is able to write so many books only because he wakes up early in the morning. This way, he manages to get some free time before his kids wake up.

No: 6 – Plan your day the night before (10 minutes)
OR plan the most important task for the day (1 minute)
If you plan your day in advance, when you wake up, you already feel more motivated, energised and organised. To wake up knowing exactly what needs to be accomplished is a nice feeling!
Planning the entire day can take some time – at least 10 minutes. So, if for some reason, you don't have enough time, you can think about 1 most important task that you will need to accomplish the next day – perhaps a task that takes you a step closer towards achieving your life goal.
Planning your schedule for the next day will not only motivate you to wake up early but it will also enable you to start your day on the right foot.
No: 7 – Think about your top 3 short-term goals (3 minutes)
“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal”. - Henry Ford
Researchers have found that successful people think about thei
r goals more often than the average.
Constantly thinking about your goals makes you more positive, optimistic, energised and ambitious.
Ask yourself the following question:
“What are my 3 most important goals for the next 3 – 6
Thinking about this question will not only push you to work towards achieving your goals but it will also help you in staying focused.
No: 8 – Write down 5 things in your ‘Gratitude journal’ or ‘Success journal’ (5 minutes)
While it’s useful and natural to think about problems we need to resolve, it’s advisable to balance such thoughts with positive ones.
If you choose to maintain a gratitude journal - write down the ‘5 things that you are grateful for.’
If you choose to maintain a gratitude journal – write down ‘5 accomplishments, you have achieved in the last 24 hours’.
Maintaining a journal will enable you to actively think about positive things, and thereby make you more confident and optimistic.
No: 9 – Meditate (5 – 30 minutes)
Meditation is a great way to relieve stress and bring peace to your mind.
There are many mediation techniques. Here’s a good one:
- Sit comfortably
- Concentrate on your breathing
- Actively rid your mind of any thoughts (good or bad)
When you do this, it will happen that the thoughts continue to invade your mind. When this happens, try not to actively focus on them. Let your thoughts pass like clouds in the sky. Keep focusing on your breathing.
Meditating for even 5 minutes can make a drastic difference in your life.
No: 10 – Read educational or inspirational content (10 – 30 minutes)
Nowadays, most of us start our day by checking news and social media messages on our mobile phones. However, this could bring about unwanted and unexpected emotions.
